International Year One in Business Management

Introduction

The International Year One in Business Management is a first-year undergraduate equivalent program designed to build students’ knowledge and skills in the field of business. This program is academically equivalent to the first year of a business management degree taught at leading universities in the UK.

Students who successfully complete the International Year One in Business Management gain guaranteed access to the second year of an international bachelor’s degree at a top-ranked university.

What Will I Study?

Students enrolled in the International Year One in Business Management complete a total of eight modules (four per semester). Each module is designed to provide comprehensive business knowledge and skills essential for further studies and future business practice.

Modules

Business Economics (15 Credits)

This module provides essential economic knowledge, enabling students to place business-related issues within a broader economic context and recognize the contributions of economics in resolving business problems.

Business Skills (15 Credits)

This module equips students with a range of skills for the International Year One program and future undergraduate studies in business and management. The skills gained are transferable and beneficial in the workplace.

Organizational Behaviour (15 Credits)

Students gain an appreciation of organizational structures, leadership, management, culture, motivation, and change. The module covers different approaches to analyzing organizational behavior and the interrelated facets that impact organizational success.

Financial Accounting 1 (15 Credits)

This module provides a fundamental understanding of basic financial accounting principles, from ledger entry bookkeeping to single entity final accounts, within the context of the latest Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.

Management Themes and Case Studies (15 Credits)

Students explore the theory, practice, and structure of business management, focusing on strategic, operational, and ethical aspects. The module includes case studies to develop a comprehensive understanding of management themes.

Marketing or International Business (15 Credits each)

Marketing: Introduction to marketing theories and concepts, focusing on their application in various organizational contexts. International Business: Foundation in international business theory and practice, addressing global economic issues, internationalization strategies, and the international business environment.

Management Accounting (15 Credits)

This module offers a broad understanding of management accounting’s role in decision-making, covering key areas like cost assignment, planning, and control, providing a foundation for more advanced study.

Quantitative Methods for Business (15 Credits)

Students develop mathematical and statistical literacy, focusing on conceptual understanding and application in business contexts. The module prepares students for advanced quantitative analysis and develops skills in using spreadsheet software and calculators.

Upon completing the International Year One in Business Management, you will have the opportunity to progress to multiple universities across the world including the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, with a range of degree courses available, including Business Management, Marketing, Finance, and International Business. Business Management degrees from international universities are highly regarded by employers, even for those not planning to practice as business professionals.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • Pass in 2 A-Levels subjects with grade C or above

OR

  • Pass in Intermediate with 60% or above

OR

  • Pass in Level 3 Foundation Diploma with 60% or above

AND

  • Pass in IELTS with Overall Score of 5.5 with no bands lower than 5.0 or equivalent
