Diploma in Computing

Introduction

The ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Computing is a 120-credit qualification regulated by Ofqual, equivalent in size and level to the first year of a UK bachelor’s degree in computing. It provides learners with the core knowledge, technical skills, and foundational understanding necessary for further study or entry-level roles in the IT and computing industry.

IT and Society

Unit 1

Credits:12

Learners will understand ethical, legal and regulatory issues relating to IT. They will also understand the impact of IT on society.

Computer Systems and Software

Unit 2

Credits:12

This unit will develop learners’ understanding of the integration of hardware and software components. Learners will explore how hardware serves specific computer processing functions and investigate the use of various software applications.

Computer Programming

Unit 3

Credits:12

This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the communication practices within organisations and learners are introduced to the different modes and channels of communication used in organisations.

Relational Database Systems

Unit 4

Credits:12

This unit will develop learners’ understanding of database systems and data analysis and modelling

Software Engineering

Unit 5

Credits:12

Leaners will gain an understanding of the need for Software Engineering and the different methods and techniques

Systems Analysis and Design

Unit 6

Credits:12

Learners will be able to understand the systems development life cycle and the role of systems methodologies within the life cycle. Learners will be introduced to different fact finding and problem-solving techniques and they will use these to analyse an existing system.

E-commerce Applications

Unit 7

Credits:12

Learners will learn about different e-commerce models and applications and how they can be used to develop e-commerce in a small business.

Human Computer Interaction

Unit 8

Credits:12

Learners will develop understanding of principles and models of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). They will evaluate existing HCI design and principles and use this to help them plan their own prototype user interface

Information Systems Theory and Practice

Unit 9

Credits:12

Learners will understand the benefits of using information systems to plan a project

Management Information Systems

Unit 10

Credits:12

Learners will investigate different management information systems and evaluate the common features.

Eligibility Criteria

Entry qualifications may include

2+ A Levels and 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above)
– Level 3 qualifications (e.g., ATHE Level 3 Diploma)
–  Access to Higher Education Certificate
–  Equivalent international qualifications

English Language Requirement

 IELTS 5.5
–  CEFR B2 / CAE 162+ / PTE Academic 42–49
